Notes from Monday

Team Captains, Remember...
*All onsite food needs to have a permit from Kelly Olfers at City Hall 997-7521. Kelly is not going to charge anyone for the permit, but you HAVE to have one if you are cooking anything beyond a ‘bake sale.’

*Your campsite is 10X20, and all are facing inward to help promote onsite fundraising. It will also help to have signs to promote your fundraiser

*Bring team signs for your campsite and to carry on the team lap. I would love to have spirit signs to cheer the survivors all the way around the track!!

*No pets…sorry, the schools rule not ours.

*Please bring lighters for your team to use during the Luminaria ceremony.

*If anyone has pictures from last year, especially of closing ceremony, please bring them to me, or email them.

To clarify the rumors....

I got a call today stating team members were not participating in this year's Relay For Life because the American Cancer Society supported Pro-Choice organizations.

My answer....No! The American Cancer Society financially funds
R...research
E...education
A...advocay
S...services
ON to a cure for all types of cancer.

They do not support other organizations at all, unless they are..
R...Researching cures for cancer
E...Educating people about cancer and cancer prevention
A...Advocating about the American Cancer Society and it's cause, or
S...Supporing a Service provided by the American Cancer Society

The official answer from the VP of communications for the American Cancer Society...
The American Cancer Society does not support Pro-Choice organizations. There was an instance, last year where the American Cancer Society funded a grant for Smoking Cessation classes in a clinic. The funds were used to train the teachers and support the Smoking Cesation program. It was later found out that Planned Parenthood classes were also taught within the same clinic. These were completely different programs that just happened to be taught within the same building.

I hope this clears up the issue. If there is anything further, please ask me. I will come talk to your organization or send you to the official people within the American Cancer Society.

PLEASE HELP ME CLEAR THESE ISSUES, spread the word and always ask! Dont just assume the rumors are correct.

Thank you, ARAH
